Chargehub-x-irdeto-partnership

ChargeHub Offers Plug&Charge Technology

ChargeHub now provides Plug&Charge technology in partnership with Irdeto, transforming the EV charging experience. At the heart of this innovation are two essential building blocks:

  • PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) & Certificates Management: This enables seamless authentication, ensuring that drivers are securely recognized at charging stations.
  • EV Roaming: This enables authorization, connectivity, and payment compatibility across multiple networks, ensuring EV drivers can charge securely and without hassle.

Together, these components create a streamlined, reliable Plug&Charge experience that simplifies the process of charging—making it easier than ever for drivers to connect, charge, and go.

How Plug&Charge Technology Works

1

Registration

For eligible EVs, drivers need to have their vehicle registered in a centralized database, linked to an eMobility Service Provider (eMSP) that supports Plug&Charge. This may involve providing payment information, such as a credit card.
2

Authentication

When the driver plugs in, the vehicle automatically initiates secure communication with the charging station via ISO15118. This process involves the exchange of digital certificates to verify the vehicle's identity, ensuring secure authentication without any physical interaction.

3

Authorization

The authorization step is facilitated through the OCPI protocol, where the Charge Point Operator (CPO) communicates with the eMobility Service Provider to verify that the EV driver has a valid payment method. If different CPOs and eMSPs are involved, the robust roaming infrastructure provided by ChargeHub enables seamless payment authorization between all parties, streamlining the experience for drivers.

4

Automatic Start

Once the authentication and authorization processes are complete, charging begins automatically. This allows drivers to focus on their journey, with no need for manual initiation or additional inputs, providing a truly effortless charging experience.

5

Billing & Reconciliation

When the session ends, the final invoice amount is transmitted from the CPO to the eMSP to ensure accurate billing for the EV driver. ChargeHub's PassportHub simplifies this post-session step with a streamlined financial reconciliation process, managing billing transfers between CPOs and eMSPs. This advantage provides operators with a hassle-free way to manage and settle payments efficiently, supporting a seamless experience for drivers even after they’ve unplugged.

Plug&Charge technology is at the forefront of enhancing convenience in public EV charging, ensuring drivers can charge quickly and efficiently, much like a traditional gas station refueling experience.

FAQs About Plug&Charge Technology

chargehub-plug-and-charge-differ

How does Plug&Charge technology differ from Autocharge?

While both solutions aim to simplify the EV charging process, Plug&Charge technology (based on the ISO 15118 standard) incorporates a much more secure and robust communication process. ISO 15118 uses digital certificates to authenticate the vehicle, allowing encrypted communication between the vehicle and the charging station. This standard also uses a digital certificate to represent the EV driver for authorization, ensuring secure, automatic transactions without requiring user input. In contrast, Autocharge does not authenticate or encrypt communication; it only uses the vehicle’s MAC address to identify and authorize the user, which provides a more basic level of access control.
